About Our Event
We are all looking forward to going back to normal. But could there be a better normal—one where the financial system functions for all people? How do we create a financial system that is more equitable, that creates a level playing field and removes systemic racism? Join us for Envisioning Our Financial Future, a virtual fundraising event for Sound Outreach.
Sound Outreach helps Pierce County residents experiencing low and/or fixed-incomes build financial security through financial counseling, job training, and additional wraparound services. Our services are always free to our clients and paid through the support of donations, grants, and partnerships with other organizations. It is our mission to empower Pierce County residents to achieve their financial dreams through an integrated model of coaching and counseling to secure personal financial security. Keynote Speaker

At the Envisioning Our Financial Future fundraising event we are pleased to welcome keynote speaker Mehrsa Baradaran, Associate Dean and a professor of law at the University of California, Irvine. Previously, she was the Robert Cotten Alston Chair in Corporate Law and Associate Dean for strategic initiatives. Baradaran is the author of The Color of Money: Black Banks and the Racial Wealth Gap and How the Other Half Banks: Exclusion, Exploitation, and The Threat to Democracy. Her research focuses on financial inclusion, racial inequality, and banking regulation.
