The Hilltop Center for Strong Families

Sound Outreach’s Hilltop Center for Strong Families (CSF) operates from our location at 1106 Martin Luther King Jr. Way. This United Way-funded Financial Opportunity Center bundles together employment coaching, financial counseling, and access to public benefits through comprehensive case management for economically vulnerable Hilltop households. With 21 staff and a budget of more than $1.2 million, Sound Outreach takes a cross-sector approach to providing resources to program participants. In late 2017, we will expand our footprint in the Alberta Canada Building, hosting 4-5 Tacoma Housing Authority staff in our space, two loan officers from Harborstone Credit Union, and a street-facing ATM, establishing a neighborhood financial center complete with our CSF programming and access to financial services. For 20 years, Sound Outreach has served as a trusted agency on the Hilltop, providing SNAP and Apple Health enrollment, free tax preparation, housing counseling, and homeless services. Our new focus on financial wellbeing is helping our neighbors to reduce debt, build credit, and grow wealth—all crucial elements for current residents when considering how economic development will affect rents and home values.
